When Joseph Palmer (Robert Devall) and Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr) star in the film ‘The Judge’ there are a turmoil of feelings and emotions to be dealt with. Hank, a big city defense attorney, must return to his home town after his mother’s passing where Joseph, his father, and a local judge, is arrested for murder. Hank must cope with his resentful recovering alcoholic father while trying to take on his defense in court and manage his own emotional well-being. The film is astonishing at providing a drama filled, action packed movie that any viewer won’t be able to stop watching once started. A film displaying a family full of successful careers, and what seems to be fulfilled lives, while dealing with life’s stresses and complications along the way. A husband possibly getting divorced, a brother who lost his dreams as a ball player all due to one accident. Hank falls into a parenting role more than once throughout the movie. The article published by AACAP also states, “Some children of alcoholics may cope by taking the role of responsible "parents" within the family and among friends. They may become controlled, successful "overachievers" throughout school, and at the same time be emotionally isolated from other children and teachers. Their emotional problems may show only when they become adults.” (Psychiatry) Explaining a lot about hank and his behavior throughout the film.
