The Glass Castle is a book about a young girl's perspective of her bipolar mother and her drunk father. As she grows up she begins to see that life isn’t a fairy-tale and the actions of her parents will have consequences. There are many sociological aspects in this memoir that are relevant to society today such as the ingrained normalcy of alcoholism in Jeannette’s family, her father's fear of conformity and their familial institution in itself. These things are important because in understanding them we are more easily able to explore the dynamic of their family and in turn it can make it easier to interpret why the unnecessary struggles in her life may have occurred.
