At the beginning of Lewis Carroll Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Alice couldn’t quite define who she was anymore as she has changed several times since the morning (Lewis 34) and as the story progresses on she is always questioned and challenged by the inhabitants of Wonderland which aid her in building up her story. Similarly, in the novel J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry is faced with challenges from the Dursley’s and Hogwarts characters that aid him in becoming more and more of a wizard as the novel progresses on. He uses the living with Muggles card against Harry suspecting that he’d be worthless and isn’t fit for magic. ‘When are you getting a train back to the Muggles.”(Rowling 114) Just because Harry lived with the Muggles Malfoy believes he doesn’t have a place in Hogwarts and should just leave. Harry’s difference compared to the rest of the students is being used against him by a bully who is full of himself and thinks he is superior to them all. He just wants to mess with Harry like when he didn't show up to the Midnight duel just to get Harry in trouble. Malfoy channels his disliking of Harry by trying to get him in trouble. Furthermore, the plans to get Harry in trouble always end up in Harry's favor and backfire. They would insult Alice and tell her “you insult me by talking such nonsense’ (Lewis 22) and later on Alice uses the same nonsense phrase back at them “don’t talk such nonsense, said Alice more boldly: you know you’re growing too.”(Lewis 93) There is a big transition from her being told she is nonsense to calling others nonsense revealing that Alice grown accustomed to the ways of Wonderland and has just used them against the inhabitants. As Alice keeps exploring Wonderland she begins to understand how the inhabitants in this land live and by understanding their differences. These differences helped Alice to stop the dream once she realized that they are nothing but a ‘pack of cards’ (Lewis 102) she awakened from her dream. Throughout the whole story Alice saw they were cards and went along with this land and inhabitants being different she accepted it and tried to be an inhabitant of Wonderland. In the journey of Wonderland, she had many conversations with different inhabitants that created the adventure. Their differences brought to the book helped create Alice’s story.
