The second essay I read was “Night” by Alice Munro, which is a story about how Munro had her appendix removed as a fourteen-year-old child but later found out that the doctor also removed a tumor from her body on that same day. A couple of months later, she begins to have insomnia and becomes scared that she will hurt her younger sister. She develops the habit of taking walks outside on the sleepless nights, but on one occasion she runs into her father outside. She confesses her thoughts of killing her sister to her father and was reassured by his calm response. I chose to read this essay because I was curious about what point the author was trying to make with a story about taking an appendix out. The essay ends with Munro considering her
