Alka-Seltzer “Effervescent analgesic alkalizing tablets” were first introduced by the Dr.Miles Medical Company in 1931. Alka- Seltzer consists of sodium bicarbonate, anhydrous citric acid, and aspirin. Its uses are for upset stomachs and headaches. It was mainly advertised for overeating (Rader, 2010, p. 6). Alka- Seltzer is a nationally recognized headache treatment. (McTavish, 2004, p. 153). In order to use Alka-Seltzer one must place two tablets into a glass of water and then drink it. Once you drink it the Alka- Seltzer helps decrease the acids in the stomach’s juices.
