In "All Seven Deadly Sins Committed At Church Bake Sale", the editor uses the seven deadly sins to illustrate parishioners committing at least one of them. The editor's satirical report shines a light on the foolishness happening inside the church. With the many examples of the sins committed you could see that even the most devout religious church goer, slip up and commit a sin. Three of the most common sins committed were pride, envy, and lust.

Pride in my opinion is the start of it all. In the beginning, it was Parishioner Connie Barrett who bragged that her cookies, cakes, brownies were the highlight of the church bake sales, and everyone said so...(201). She continued on to say that even she's amazed at how well they turned out (201). This lead to fellow parishioner Wicks to commit gluttony, when she couldn't stop eating them because they were that good. While the wrath and avarice were felt throughout the bake sale, parishioner Barrett just sat there with a smug look of satisfaction on her face (201).

When someone is doing really good they envy you because they want that. Envy can lead to unfortunate actions. In the bake sale the envy was so bad, one church goer was spreading rumors of Barett. Parishioner Cox suggested that Barrett stole candles from the church's storage closet (202). After that she stated by that time next year,Barett wouldn't be co-chair and instead her place would be given to someone who was willing to rotate table spots (202). Clearly Cox was implying she wanted Barrett's job and thinks she can do it better than her. Perhaps instead Cox should stop gossiping and help her daughter set up her booth, she may not know it but she just committed the sin of
