The reading pieces that I’ve been exposed to so far have definitely been thought provoking. Each of them can have a variety of unique meanings, however they also do share themes as well. Pieces such as “The Allegory of the Cave”, “Pedagogy of the oppressed”, “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas”, and finally “A Place to Stand”, I believe all share a common theme of how oppression can play a role in creating ignorism amongst the ones who are oppressed. The Allegory of the Cave is a great example of this.
In The Allegory of the Cave, the oppressed ones are given a chance to be set free from their “chains” and they don’t take it. Instead, they ridiculed the person trying to help them, and suspected him of turning against everyone else and threaten to kill him because of it. “Would they not

Through oppression, people are mislead to believe their ideals and values aren’t relevant because the oppressors are taking advantage of the fact that they have more power over them. The more power a person has, the more influence they are going to have on the weak; driving them to believe that they have no power, and that they need to accept that their predicament is normal. When the oppressors are successful at doing this, they remain in power and seek to establish their agenda. This practice is still used everywhere and needs to stop. People need to realise that being controlled into believing or doing something you wouldn’t normally do, is against human values. Values are what set us apart from animals. If we have no values, who’s to say that we are human? Humans can be capable of having rapacious desires, but we are also more capable of creating good as well. If we can believe that everyone has the ability, and right, to contribute in creating a peaceful society where everyone is welcome; society as a whole could prosper in the fact of creating an environment that suits everyone’s needs, for the good of
