The creed of Alpha Kappa Psi embodies all that the community and its members stand for. (“AKPsi Today”). AKPsi is a professional business fraternity that expands all across the country and is united by the common goal of making a difference in the world. I currently am a pledge of the Beta Xi pledge class Of the Alpha Kappa Psi-Phi chapter and it is a community that has truly changed my life. The community’s main focus is making everyone the best that they can be. Members constantly go out of their way to help people develop as an individual and are truly invested in each other’s success and happiness. The community emphasizes brotherhood by following the saying that “trust, respect, cooperation, companionship and aid to brothers is the expected norm” (“AKPsi Today”). The community does not view its members simply as members, but rather as family. This is shown in the way members communicate with each other. In certain instances it is important to behave and communicate professionally. With this being said, what allows the community to be so close and for everyone to be so invested in each other’s success is the informal form of communication you have with friends and family. The element of love and family is what allows the organization to be a discourse community. Everyone is so invested in helping others and promoting the education and success of their peers due to the elements of friendship and brotherhood you form. A current freshman, Rachel Beir, explains “For me, coming in as a freshman and having so many seniors be willing and ready to help me succeed and welcome me into the family was very special and something that makes me want to do the same in the future.” This element of selflessness of the older generation helping the younger generation is contagious and is what allows stability of the chapter and for the community to
