People believed that the school board did not have authority to take out the bible and took them to court. The court ruled in the favor and appealed the decision of the school board. People threw havoc and it became a sensitive subject for the reputation of a judge. In the case of Judge Taft, he did not care of what his ruling or opinion would do to his reputation. He gave a dissenting opinion and his opinion was sustained when it went to the supreme court. (Leonard 128) This decision may have haunted him and affected his chances to be governor, but there were other plans for Alphonso Taft. He was appointed Secretary of war by President Ulysses S. Grant who appointed him as the Secretary of War, and then as the acting Attorney General. In the last moments of his career he left the title of Attorney General and then became United States Minister to Austria-Hungary and then Minister to Russia (“Alphonso Taft”, Web.). He later died in 1891. The life of Alphonso Taft set a road map and foundation for William Howard Taft.

His father being the biggest role model for him, and his brothers Peter and Charles who inspired him helped create a stern, faithful man to the law. The love and faithfulness William had for the law should be a guideline for a good Judge/ Person. William loved life and exceeded the expectation of the Taft family. William’s path was inevitable, but he worked hard for it and though there could have been political consequences with his rulings, and opinions, he stood true to what he believed in, the law. He ended up achieving his father’s dream and at the same time fulfilled his, and died doing what he loved. William Howard Taft said this, “Presidents come and go, but the Supreme Court goes on
