This script’s primary goal is to increase the number of salient other’s on the issue and the congressman’s motivation to comply, while increasing the strength of their beliefs, and diminishing any negative control beliefs regarding the bill itself. It is safe to assume all congressmen know Alzheimer’s is bad, but they must strongly believe this bill will make a considerable impact. Likewise, there is a general understanding that the disease is common, but by giving specific figures and adding a name with a personal story increases compliance. The message only briefly addresses control beliefs because lawmakers clearly have the power to vote in favor of the bill. It is Congress’ duty to pass legislation which benefits the American people.
