Ambition is a deadly thing that drives us to be or to achieve something more. Some say ambition is something that helps us achieve things in life. Which is true, but as you will find out Ambition can be very dangerous, especially if it begins to control you. In this essay I will prove to you that ambition can be hurtful. The examples come from two stories and one person story. The two stories are “Contents of a Dead Man’s Pocket” and “The Pearl”. In “ Contents of a Dead Man’s Pocket” ambition almost cost the main character his life. A young man name Tom is striving to gain a higher position at the grocery store where he works. Kinos ambition shifted throughout the story, it went from using the pearl to save his son to using the pearl to send his son to school and buy new clothes. Kino’s pearl caused him to defend it which got him hurt. Also Kino killed a man for trying to steal the pearl. Which caused his family to flee their home. In the end Kino’s son Coyotito was shot and killed. Kino’s ambition caused him to get hurt, kill a man, flee from trackers, and the loss of his baby boy. “ The Pearl is a great example of how ambition is very dangerous.
