Macbeth’s Destructional Path Ambition can lead people down wrong paths. People should not let it get to their heads. Macbeth was very gullible and ambitious, and he was so demanding in what he wanted that nothing or no one could stand in his way. In the play Macbeth, Shakespeare uses Macbeth with his traits of gullibility and ambition to portray how too much power can easily get to your head. Shakespeare uses ambition to show us how Macbeth went down the wrong path of life. Macbeth wants to be king no matter how he has to get it. Macbeth lets his ambition reach him. “My thought, whose murder yet is but fantastical, shakes so my single state of man That function is smother’d in surmise, and nothing is but what is not (1.3.52-55)”. Ambition is revealed through Macbeth’s thinking of wanting to kill so he can be king. This effects the reader by making him or her have thoughts of fear of Macbeth and helps the reader realize how Ambition can tempt you to do bad things. Macbeth is easily trickable, because he thinks he will really be king because the witches told him that he would. Macbeth is too gullible for his own good. “When those that gave the thane of Cawdor to me Promised no less to them? (1.3.126-127)”. The witches told Macbeth he would be king, and he believed every word, because it was what Macbeth wanted to believe. This reveals how things that people tell you are not always true. The characterization effects the reader because it helps the reader see how Macbeth was taken advantage of. Because Macbeth is gullible, he can be told just about anything, and he will believe it. He trusts others too much. Being gullible can get you into more trouble than it’s worth, and it is easy for others to use you for their
