Ambrose Bierce's 'Chickamauga'

In the short story Chickamauga by Ambrose Bierce, which took place in 1891 during the American Civil War. This short story spoke about the actual war named “The Battle Chickamauga” which took place in 1863. This war was one of the major battles fought in Georgia it was known as the “ bloody river”. The author of this short story, “Chickamauga” wrote about a young boy who was one day playing games by himself and left his home then eventually got lost in the forest. Ambrose Bierce put disturbing, but highly impacted images in our head of what the young innocent boy went through while being lost during the battle taking place. The young boy was six years old, he wasn’t wealthy, but his father once was a soldier who served his country. His father loved the military, which lead the young boy to understand and lead to making himself a wooden sword. However, the young boy thought he was bold enough and was already planning on what to do, it turned out to be a rabbit. As frightened as the young boy and us readers were for him, it gave us an unpleasant scene in our heads. Keeping us on the edge of our seats hoping the young boy stays safe and finds his way home. It only got more intense, he came across men not ordinary men but men who were injured and wounded. Men who used their arms to drag their boys. With curiosity the boy crept close to them looking at them in the face. Most were going towards the creek, many didn’t make it. In the actual Battle of Chickamauga, the battle took place by the banks of the Chickamauga creek.
