During the period of the Solomic Dynasty, Amda Siyon was an emperor of Ethiopia. During the fourteenth century Amda Siyon was a ruthless leader. He ruled Ethiopia from 1314 to 1344. He is probably most known for fighting against the Muslims. There is not a lot that is known about Amda Siyon. He wanted to defeat anyone that was thought as a threat to the Christian Kingdom. He greatly increased the territory and power in Ethiopia. During his time as ruler he did a lot to improve the equipment that his army had. He also increased the use of daggers and swords.
A lot of Amda Siyon’s ancestry is unknown but It is said that Wedem Arad is Amda’s father. However, he did not claim that. He could have had a part in overthrowing his father, that is if he was even his father. “One such example is the King of Hadiya who after 32 years of being ruled by Amda, refused to pay tribute to the Emperor and for his insolence was killed, his descendants banished out of the country, and his land and wealth divided amongst the new leadership.” The emperor got word that Egyptian Christians were being killed. Siyon threatened to react to the muslims in his Empire, and also said he would divert the Nile. Eventually, the Egyptians killed one of Siyon’s own so of course, he reacted. He charged the Muslims and attacked Ifat with his own military. This started a war against each other. The attack against the Muslims continued. This war closed the region.
It is known that trade thrived under Amda Siyon’s time as emperor. Archeologist found treasures, textiles, and coins that go back to the trade with the Byzantine Empire. Some important writings were done under his time as Emperor also. Books and important Egyptians manuscripts were written which all lead back to this time
