America’s Foundation

The United States of America is a country built by many different ethnicities. It is a country that is known as a melting pot and a place that can fulfill dreams. Many people traveled to America in search for a better life. A life where they can insure their children more than what they grew up on. Immigrant’s influences on America are what made it into the prosperous country it is today. Britain was the first country to send over citizens to colonize America. They established the thirteen colonies. The first successful English settlements were the Virginia Colony in Jamestown in 1607 and the Pilgrims' Plymouth Colony in 1620. The 1628 chartering of the Massachusetts Bay Colony resulted in a wave of migration; by 1634, New England had been settled by some 10,000 Puritans. Between the late 1610s and the American Revolution, about 50,000 convicts were shipped to Britain's American colonies. Beginning in 1614, the Dutch settled along the lower Hudson River, including New Amsterdam on Manhattan Island. In 1674, the Dutch ceded their American territory to England; the province of New Netherland was renamed New York. Many new immigrants, especially to the South, were indentured servants—some two-thirds of all Virginia immigrants between 1630 and 1680.By the 18th century, African slaves were becoming the primary source of bonded labor. With the 1729 division of the Carolinas and the 1732 colonization of Georgia, the thirteen British colonies that would become the United States of America were established. All had local governments with elections open to most free men, with a growing devotion to the ancient rights of Englishmen and a sense of self-government stimulating support for republicanism. The primary reason most British people came to America was to be relieved of the power of King George the 3rd and have religious freedoms as well.
The British left many influences on America that are still carried out today one of the most important is food, including roast beef, roast chicken, pork chops and lamb chops, Yorkshire pudding, peas, carrots, gravy, ketchup and, for some strange reason, mint humbugs. They give the food peculiar names where a person thinks it is one thing but it really is not. An example of this would be Yorkshire pudding, most people think it is pudding but really it is a bread like type of food that is eaten with a roast and potatoes and is topped off with gravy. Many of these foods fill stomachs and sit on the kitchen tables of Americans. Besides foods there is also the fashion culture that has impacted the United States.
The way of dressing started in England. It was the beginning of dressing semi formal, formal and white tie. The semi formal would consist of Good quality dark suit, white shirt, dark tie, dark socks and black shoes, ballet or cocktail-length dress. Then the formal is consisted of Tuxedo preferred - dark suit acceptable in some situations. They did not wear tails, long dresses, black tie, tuxedo (dinner jacket), white dress shirt, cuff links and studs, , black silk socks, black patent, leather shoes, long dress, sheer stockings, and Peau-de-soie pumps dyed to match dress or evening sandals. Then the white tie which is not seen as much in today’s society as it was then, is contained by Tails, white wing shirt, cuff links and studs, white bow tie, white cummerbund or white vest, white gloves , black silk socks, black patent leather shoes, long dress, sheer hose, peau-de-soie pumps dyed to match dress or evening sandals, and long white gloves. What is mostly seen today is the semi formal and formal. It was important for the British to dress conservative and properly. Society dictated class on how people dressed. It was important for the wealthy to show they were wealthy with what they wore and the poor would wear their finest that they could afford. They dressed their children following these guidelines as well. Everyone obeyed the dress code. Today people
