In today’s day and age, there are careers which did not exist 50 years ago and these careers provide more opportunity for people to reach the American Dream. The American Dream is the promise to young Americans that America will provide the resources for everyone to acquire a fulfilled and happy life. Despite the fact that the American Dream is a term used for almost 100 years and some individuals do not believe this promise is attainable any longer because life is just not the same as it was a century ago, others argue the American Dream is still alive as many young Americans strive to make the most out of their life as they work hard at something they have a passion for. With so many more opportunities, things are bound to change. The modern American Dream is not about making money, rather it is about being happy and fulfilled with one’s life. This new Dream is clear in the excerpt The Right to Fail, “This is hardly the road to riches or to an executive suite. Yet I have met many of these young volunteers, and they are not pining for traditional success. On the contrary, they appear more fulfilled than the average vice-president with a swimming pool,” (Zinsser 83). Becoming a “success” is not everyone’s top priority anymore but this does not mean that the American Dream is dead. What is a top priority for many young Americans is making the most out of their lives by working hard for what they have a passion for.
