The concept of “Manifest Destiny” identify the U.S. had the divinely granted right to expand geographically from Atlantic to Pacific, like the book mention "Some Americans even argued that it was God's will for the United States to eventually stretch from the Atlantic to the Pacific"(38). Furthermore, “Manifest Destiny” is connect to the American Exceptionalism, which give the right to occupy the whole continent and this concept made Americans have a sense of priority

One result of the continued expansion of United States territory was the Mexican-American war. Manifest Destiny being an important ideology during the war against Mexico, because both two side believe they have the right to taking control of California. However, there are some issues between the Mexican and American, like our book said “legal cultures made it difficult for Mexican landowners when it came to ownership issues” (39).
