The progressive movement had a great impact on America and it's way of life. "Progressivism a loosely defined movement for social, political, and economic reform, gained political power and prestige during the first two decades of the 20th century" (Freund). The progressive movement have faced issues and conflict through out the years but has a significant impact and outcomes in today society. The year 1901, the United States of America began a new era. Throughout the years, the Unites States became diverse with introducing new technologies and a rapid growth of the industrial economy. According to the article "Introduction: The Progressive Era", Americans who refer to themselves as progressives, believed they were members of a 'progressive movement' " (Jaycox). The progressive movement were known for its role of direct democracy for example, presidential primaries, direct selection of United States senators and primary election (Fine). The progressive era spurred the rise of large cities. The rural inhabitants moved to towns in large numbers along with a massive movement of new immigrants from different nations.During the progressive era new inventions arise; the first auto mobile was created, skyscrapers were built and many more modern technologies. In addition to new technologies, the progressive movement created new type of journalism and they were known as " muckrackers". Muckrackers wrote to expose social problems.
