Many people gamble all over the world two popular things you can find in a casino are table and card games, more specifically poker. Poker has evolved from what it was once known for in the beginning, and its heritage dates back to as early as 1526 it branched off from games such as: primero, primiera, and la prime. What we know today as American poker began in 1829. In the year 1834 poker was then adapted to a 52-card deck (full deck) and no official rules have been set out yet for them game during this time period. Before that it didn’t use 52 cards and was a simplistic game.

One of the variants that was created as a table game is the Caribbean poker stud, what’s different about this type of poker is that the player plays against the dealers hand oppose to competing against other players. This poker style uses a progressive jackpot meaning the prize increases every time you play (Burton). The most popular type of poker variant played today in big tournaments is the famous “Texas Hold’em” and it was first played in the early 20th century. During the time that Texas Hold’em was in its early stages before its popularity the game was limited to play only in one casino ”The Golden Nuggget”(Full Tilt Poker). Today Texas Hold’em are the high rollers favorites it has made a significant impact on the world series of poker tournament. A variation of the Hold’em game is the popular Omaha in this type of poker the player uses four cards as oppose to two its popularity isn’t as big as the big brother Texas Hold’em but Omaha has many variants of it own game. Once known as an old timers game, poker had now become a very lucrative profession for young Internet players. In 1978, the World Series of Poker hosted a series of poker events leading up to the main event, a $10,000 Texas Hold’em tournament that would decide the best poker player of the year. Bobby “the Owl” Baldwin bested a record field of 42 players to capture the title of world champion and first prize of $270,000. Ten years later, in 1988, the number of entrants had jumped to 167 with a first place prize of $700,000. Many would have never imagined it, but by 2005, the World Series of Poker main event field had risen to nearly a whopping six thousand runners. A $7.5 million first prize and all nine players who make the final table become millionaires. In 2006, there were 8,733 entrants competing for the top prize of $12 million
