The Tea Act was a tax passed by Parliament in May 1730 and is often regarded as the final provocation that ignited American revolution. Most tea in the colonies was smuggled in from the Dutch, which was significantly cheaper than that of the tea of the British East India Company, who was the main supplier of British Tea, as well as the principal actor in the British economy.
