Summarizing and Responding: Amy Tan’s “Mother Tongue”
Amy Tan, a writer, explains the power of the language and the kinds of English she uses in her essay “Mother Tongue”. Tan is a writer fluent in English who grew up in a family of immigrants; her mother is Chinese. In one of her speeches, using the formal English. When she sees that his mother was sitting among people whose she has never used the professional English Tan realized that she uses two kinds in her life: the professional, for work; and the poor or intimate, with her family. Tan shows the most difficult to learn English, for kids who grow up in families of immigrants in the US, and how it is affecting the learning. I grew up in Brazil my family don’t speak any word in English on my country few people speaks English I could practice a little my conversation. Now a day, I’m an international student in US, and I’m sure that my English is poor, like Tan’s mother. When she describes the difficult, for her mother answer a call, sometimes to receive a bad service, for her English. I remember of moments when I did not ask, for help, or did not ask, for eat because I was apprehensive, If the person would not understand me would not give me a good service, or would debauch me. In the future, I will have children they will have the same problems that Tan,, children with parents who speak not perfect English in the house. However, they will have friends at the school with the perfect English. I have the same problems with English that Amy Tan’s mother had. It makes me think all kinds of problems I can have, problems that I did not imagine before I arrive in the US and before I read the Amy Tan’s essay.
