Back in the early 2000s, Maria was a happy little girl
She would always run down the hill and swing on the weeping willows tree’s vines like a monkey
The towering weeping willow reached up into the sky
The base of the trunk was strong and wide
The branches stretch out so the vines can dangle and dance with the wind
Maria climbed the vines in hopes of reaching the top to admire the sun lighting the world
Maria always played on the tree
She played, laughed and flirted with girls
Her mother and father were strict Roman Catholic Hispanics
They did not approve of her attraction to the same sex
Her families taunts and teases
Caused Maria to become depressed and in distress
They ridicule her for being in love with a girl
To them same sex attraction

Her friend touched her in a room full of people
And not even the teacher notice
Maria thought that society didn’t care about her friend touching her
So she contemplated suicide at the age of ten
Her Hispanic culture deemed suicidal people as weak
So Maria tried to forget
Forget the torment
Forget the trauma
Forget the torment
Forget the trauma
The once joyful weeping willow tree began to cry along with her
The powerful winds would blow the vines away
And the malicious people would yanked the vines off
Maria’s family and friends weary her down
She shut down and break away from everyone for nine years
Almost a decade has past and Maria was not doing so well
Maria got lucky and life was kind to her
She bonded with her niece Avianna
Avianna gave her hope again
Maria told her brothers and sister of her childhood and they were protective of her
But she didn’t tell her mother and father
Things were starting to get better, but the trauma from the past cannot just be forgotten
Maria continued to
Forget the torment
Forget the trauma
Forget the torment
Forget the trauma
Maria was a young adult and she couldn’t blame society anymore
Yes one cannot blame her for her struggles, but she must move
