World War I, known as the “War to End All Wars” and the “Great War” was the cause of thirty seven million military and civilian deaths, leading to the loss of a generation of intellectuals, authors, scientists, and future leaders. This “Lost Generation,” tormented by decisions my had been training to be the world’s future, but ended up dead for a cause they did not necessarily believe in. As the war continued, soldiers became desensitized and would never again be the same as their past selves, instigating a fear of what would happen when they finally did return home. World War I is an example of the terrors that occur when citizens are so blinded by patriotism that they support a war-fueled revolution without thinking about the repercussions.
