On the way down the river, Ted had stayed afloat by holding something soft and floppy, which he assumed to be a pillow. But when he was washed onto the bank, he discovered that his “pillow” was actually a small child. When rescuers found him, they took the small child away, saying they would take them straight to hospital.
Another family was also mourning the loss of their brother and son, Desmond “Des” Bennett. His sister remembered saying ''For a long time afterwards I thought that he would walk in.” Unfortunately, Des’ body was also among those never found. Also his death certificate took 3 years to be received, making the burden of his family all the harder, as many were still in mourning and grieving over the loss of their family member.
