“A Letter to God” is a short story in which Gregoria Lopex Y Fuentes, the author, presents a letter to God that shows the disappointment of the postmen. Lencho, the main character needed one hundred pesos, so his family wouldn’t starve because a hailstorm destroyed his crops. He decided to write a letter to God and put it in the mail to be delivered. The postman showed the letter to his boss, and they both started laughing at it. Soon after, the boss got serious. He wished he had the same faith as the farmer. He felt like he needed to help the farmer, so they put more than half of the money that was needed to help the farmer. Unfortunately, that didn’t please the farmer. “A plague of locusts would have left more than this… the hailstorm left nothing: This year we will have no corn or beans…” (paragraph 8) The hailstorm took more of the crops then a plague of locusts would. That expresses and shows that the hailstorm literally demolished the crops. Lencho decides to write a letter to God.’“God”‘, he wrote, “if you don't help me, my family and I will go hungry this year. I need one hundred pesos in order to resow the field and to live until the crop comes, because the hailstorm…”‘ (paragraph 15) Lencho writes this letter because he feels that there is a spirit will help him. He mails the letter to the post office. Once the post-office employees see the letter, they start laughing at it. The boss states, “What faith!, I wish I had the faith of the man who wrote this letter. To believe the way he believes. To hope with the confidence that he knows how to hop with. Starting up with a correspondence with God!” (paragraph 17) The boss feels that he should help Lencho, so he puts more than half of the money
