Everyone’s life is a journey and as we grow up we realize that there are many things in life that can not be controlled. In a short poem called “In the Long Hall,” written by Hayden Carruth is based off of a struggling and weak human, who undergoes changes. It also shows that even though the tapestry is unraveling he is still trying to move forward, but is unable to forget the damage that has happened to the tapestry. This reflects back on life by showing that even though a person is trying to move forward, it is hard to forget the damage that has been created within yourself. Struggling with overcoming obstacles can prevent personal growth, such as career possibilities, finding more satisfying relations, and a better quality life. Overcoming these obstacles are extremely possible it just takes support, time, and willingness. To overcome these struggles people must identify what is holding them back. The number one fear in overcoming obstacles is failure, but this is just a feeling that is created by the imagination. In the poem the poet states that “He spun this way and that. He worked as fast as he could with trembling fingers in futility, in frenzy, in despair.” The individual in the poem is showing that his emotions are conquering him making it harder for him to overcome this obstacle. Individuals should also increase their awareness by seeing if the obstacle is actually dangerous or just a perception in their mind. Most people find that overcoming obstacles are more empowering than they are scary. Everyone must move past fear by using positive affirmations and focusing on the opposite of the obstacle. Instead of trying to overcome obstacles at the same time try to overcome just one and see what happens. Start out with an obstacle that isn’t too hard and then move to bigger obstacles.
