This relates to the time period because after the Second World War many veterans needed work. These veterans then turned to the factories looking for work, these factories were also in the process of learning how to mass produce their goods and pay less for work. People then realized the importance of a fair workplace. This relates to the story being that the factories needed work but weren’t willing to pay a lot so, they started to offer different benefits to persuade people to work for them. Kurt Vonnegut was a popular American Author in his time period who used many of his hardships in his life as inspiration for his work, however his work did not go unnoticed as he went on to appear in various magazines, newspapers, and he won many awards also. Vonnegut was an advocate for nature and not a fan of mechanized life. Vonnegut’s short stories often had main characters that connected to Vonnegut’s real life in some way. Vonnegut’s themes in his stories were obvious when reading, as his themes carried strong messages. As Vonnegut did not write any humor he often used satire humor to make his stories silly and ironic, the reason for this was to lighten the mood in much of his serious stories. His motifs in his stories helped him convey his messages and Vonnegut was very efficient at using many real world things as imagery for his stories. The story “Deer in the Works” would be mostly liked viewed as a weird story in today’s time period. As we live in a mechanized life as the way we live, we could not live any another way. Being todays time period is all about being politically correct Vonnegut’s message of following heart and being independent would be frowned upon.
