In Maya Angelou's "Sister Flowers” a little girl with a difficult past finds herself drawn to an elegant woman named Mrs. Flowers. Marguerite (Maya) was shown attention, self-respect, and confidence, and challenged to overcome her adversities. Marguerite quickly began to find herself admiring everything about Mrs Flowers, but became apparent that nothing mattered to Marguerite when she was with Mrs. Flowers, her past; being silent, because of how she felt towards Mrs. Flowers helped bring up her self-esteem. I feel Maya called her essay “Sister Flowers” because Mrs. Flowers was like her angel that rescued her without hesitation. Always there for her and standing for everything that Maya admired made it very easy for her to accomplish anything.
