In the passage, Papa Who Wakes Up Tired in the Dark, Sandra Cisneros uses syntax to convey a lonesome tone when she describes her father at that time. Hearing the devastating news early in the morning, Cisneros can see that her father is trying to be strong in this stage of grieving but, he broke down “as if he just heard the news himself” (Cisneros 1). She express this sense of emptiness when she thinks “how they send the dead away in that county” in the upcoming funeral (Cisneros 2). Now that he is at peace, Cisneros knows that her father would have to say a final farewell to grandfather.
