Brinvilliers Affair Essay
The Brinvilliers Affair in 1676 written by Madame de Sevigne analyzes a woman’s punishment for attempting to kill her husband. The full-length letter is written from Madame’s point of view and hearing. Madame introduces her letter, by revealing her background knowledge of a woman known as Marquise that had attempted to poison her husband. Consequently, the guilty Marquise is set to be executed. In addition, she is set to confess in public while being tortured. Madame brings out the brutal punishments a woman would face, for committing a crime in the 17th century.
