The poem “God Fashioned the Ship of the World” written by Stephen Crane is a metaphor about Christianity’s view of the world. Crane discusses the creation of the earth and the relationship between God and the world.
The poem starts off in the beginning as in the creation of the world. However, in this poem the world is a ship and God is the captain and maker of the grand vessel. The author describes the maker’s skill as infinite and of an All-Master. This is in reference to the great power, knowledge, and skill of God, which is mentioned numerous times throughout the Bible like in Jeremiah 32:17 “Ah Lord GOD! Behold, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by Thy great power and by Thin outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for Thee”
