In a book that Martin Luther King wrote called Stride Toward Freedom, King claims that, “Through nonviolent resistance… the negro will be able to rise to the noble heights of opposing the unjust system while loving the perpetrators of the system,” (King 302). King says that violence “thrives on hate” and is an immoral way to deal with the issue at hand. Malcolm X on the other hand claims that, “it’s only fair to expect us to do whatever is necessary to protect ourselves,” (Malcolm X 305). Malcolm X is saying that when the government won't protect them, they have to right to protect themselves. Not that all of them should just start shooting white people randomly to get equality. King on the other hand thinks that even that kind of violence
