Reading the article “Parsing the “Free” in Free Community College” I thought that Anya Kamenetz had made some pretty good points…But mostly I disagreed with her. I thought it was smart to put the comparisons of parties in her intro. Even free college can’t be all that “free.” Like she said in this article, “the promise of “free” can mean very different things in practice.” I do think that college is too expensive, but I definitely don’t think it should be free. When the article said that they’re giving students tuition to cover the states funding instead, I think that could definitely be true. The fact that in Vermont community college is higher tuition then some four year colleges is insane. I don’t think they should be $7,530. College kids can barely afford a place to live half the time, how can they afford that for community college? …show more content…
Someone might graduate high school and go immediately into working in the trades all their life, and after working so hard to have to pay for someone’s college they don’t even know is a shame to me. You don’t really have to go to college to get a high paid job. Someone could start a business and have to work extremely hard to get the well earned money. If they then had to pay high taxes for someone that didn’t even work hard in school, it would be sad. Or what if this someone had a daughter or a son that wanted to go to College? But now they can’t because their dad has to pay higher taxes for someone else
