'The Logic of Nonstandard English' is written to persuade the reader that there are faults in the verbal deprivation theory. They argument is written using statistics, references and interviews to strenghten their claim. The author is very organized in the paragraphs they write, they provide good evidence and reasoning to support their claims, but their tone seems to be resentful in instances which distracts from the overall point of the argument. The authors strenghts in the argument include the data and references included in the paper to make it well put together. The claim that nonstandard negro english is a sign of illiteracy, poor home life, and a result of negros inferior genes are the authors main goals to debunct. The author also explained the reasoning behind the deletion of words used in nonstandard negro english, to try and prove that it is not a result of being illiterate, but that it is a langugae within itself. The author provided an examle of how there is a right way and a wrong way of using the deltion of words, and just like standard english, verbs, phrases and word order have to be considered to decide whether or not the word can be left out. The author also used an example of an interview study done on an standard english speaker and a nonstandard english speaker to support the claim that their are fallacies in middle-class standard english being the path to succeeding in school. The two examples showed that the two statements contained the same amount of thought-out answers, however the standard english response consisted of an excessive amount of non useful words.
