“The Landlady” Character Analysis In the story “The Landlady” by Roald Dahl, the author develops Billy as naive. An example is when Dahl shows that Billy realizes that The Landlady is slightly crazy, but still trusts her. The text states “The old girl is slightly dotty, Billy told himself. But at five and sixpence a night, who cares about that?” (75) This shows how Billy is naive because he acknowledges The Landlady is not fully sane, but still trusts her. Another example is when The Landlady says very odd and questionable things but he does not think much of it. The text says “‘Everything is always ready, day and night in this house, just on the off chance that an acceptable young man comes around’” (75) This shows billy is naive as well
