In “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe, the narrator is insane and did not have control over his actions. When the narrator is describing the old man he states “It was open – wide, wide open – and I grew angry as I looked at it” (Poe 1). In the beginning of the story the narrator states that he did not hate the old man, but hate the old man’s eyes. Any sane person wouldn’t get angry and take a person’s life just because of how their eye looked. Even after the narrator kills the old man the eye continues to bother the narrator to the point he starts to hallucinate the old man’s dead heart beating. The fact that the narrator was hearing a dead heart beat proves that the narrator was in a state of insanity and did not have control of his
