In act one of Cyrano de Bergerac, Rostand reveals the truth about the French elite… that under their big wigs, exquisite posture, and impeccable attire, they are barbaric. This French community has few morals and values objects over other people and their emotions. Valvert has no respect for Roxanne or his wife. He plans to cheat on his wife by forcing Roxanne into marriage because to him the only value of women is their outer beauty, and he values his own pleasure over all people. He was sexist and saw no worth of women except for their wealthy bloodline and duty to serve him. These men are also corrupt. They see no problem with assassinating someone on the off chance that their reputation might be compromised, and these
