Spending two years in an annex with seven other people can really change a person, and that is exactly what it did to Anne Frank. In the play Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, Anne and seven other people are hiding in an annex during WWII. They were hiding in the secret annex for over two years before the nazis found them. Throughout those long two years Anne becomes more thoughtful, aware of others feelings and mentally strong, which transforms her into a mature young women. There are many scenes throughout the play that show that Anne is transitioning into a more thoughtful person. Just minutes before the Nazis found them, Anne and Peter were talking about how they are fed up with being in the annex for two years when Anne says “I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are really good at heart”(118). This quote proves that Anne is mentally strong because even though she knows all the horrid things the Nazis have done, she still holds faith that deep down people are really good. Not only did Anne stay mentally strong at the end of her two year stay but also at the beginning. When the Franks first moved in to the annex Anne said to her father “You know the way I'm going to think of it here? I am going to think of it as a boarding house”(21). Anne shows that she is mentally strong by saying this because she stays strong and is making the best out of a bad situation. Anne Frank was mentally strong till the end and that is how we will remember her. Anne Frank was in the secret annex for more than two years, but she always made the best of it. During those two years Anne becomes more thoughtful, aware of others feelings and mentally strong, which transformed her into a mature young women. She savored the good, pushed through the bad, and stayed positive through it
