From a slave being forced to work on the plantation to a Freedman with the same rights as a white man was a huge change in some ways for African American, But in some ways it stayed the same. The life from a slave to a Freedman changed in the political and economic ways, but in the social aspect not as much because the racism will still be strongly there in the new south like it was before the war. The life from a slave to a Freedman changed dramatically in the political aspect. The way it changed was the African American representation in government. First document E gives African American men the right to vote for who they want to represent them. Next, in document A it shows a freed African American voting.That was a dramatic change because being a slave they could have never dreamed about having the right to choose or be apart of who will represent them in the United States government. First, former slaves or African Americans had no education they could not read or write so that made it more difficult to get a job. Also they had nothing no money clothes or anything to help them find work or a place to live. So, because of this African Americans choose to go back to what they know which was farming. So white farmers choose to start something called sharecropping as shown widely in use in document D. The farmers would allow tenants or usually African Americans to use their land for a portion of their crops. But because of the lack of education Freedman didn't know that the farmers were scamming them and putting them into lifelong debt.
