Analyzing Colin Kaepernick's 'National Anthem'

Last fall, NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick was sitting on the sideline before the game. When it was time for the players to participate in the National Anthem, everyone stood up and participated except one player. That player was Colin Kaepernick and he decided to participate, but in a way that was different from his teammates. He decided to take a knee while the National Anthem was performed and that stirred up a lot of concern and anger from fans and people around the country. When asked why he decided to take a knee, Kaepernick explained he wasn’t doing it to be disrespectful but he was doing it to show people that police brutality occurs and mostly minority groups, mainly colored people, are targeted. Even though he has received a lot of hate and comments from fans, he still had support from players from different sports leagues. These players are seeing that Kaepernick is trying to show us what’s still going on, and they’re participating in similar protests. Recently, in the NBA, players decided to stand during the National Anthem but they would link arms together to show unity. What Kaepernick is doing now is great for us as a country to see our problems and it’s going to show the future generations that you can’t stay quiet about a situation. It’s either you stay quiet and let the situation get worse, or you take action and do something that will make people realize something is wrong and we have to do something about
