October Sky by Homer Hickam Jr., was based on the true story of four young men that defeated the odds. Coming from a small coal mining town, these boys, Homer, Roy Lee, Quinten, and O’Dell, watched the orbit of Sputnik in their science class and were inspired to do something more. The theme of this movie was to go for the goals that are set and never give up.

At the beginning it was obvious that Homer did not care what others thought of him when he went and sat next to the nerd Quinten at lunch. Who later helped Homer achieve his goal of winning the state science fair. Homer also grew up in a very small coal mining town that he wanted to get out of and be more than that. Which shows that he sets his goals and doesn't give up until achieved.
