Each successive week differed in educational elements in order to provide Jack with a progressive realisation of place value whilst in accordance with the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics. For instance, the first few weeks of tutoring were organised to extend upon the information he relayed to me in the diagnostic interview, with the intention of easing Jack into the learning experience. Before delving into any problem areas, observation and assessment was required to determine the validity of Jack’s results from the diagnostic interview. Reliable evidence was needed, and thus attained, through the completion of activities which provided repetitive insight into Jack’s level of comprehension, such as using calculator computation to order numbers in an accurate sequence from smallest to largest. Bundling sticks were once again used – as in the diagnostic assessment – to confirm Jack’s knowledge of sorting and identifying different amounts of coloured sticks. Consequently, it had been established that Jack no longer required reiteration of the concepts of ordering, sorting, and identifying
