Analyzing Kek's Poem 'Home Of The Brave'

In the poem “God With a Wet nose” In “Home of the Brave” By Katherine Applegate, Kek feels assimilated and alienated to the American culture. Having to learn new words and phrases doesn’t make assimilating easier, but having a piece of home so far away is comforting. Kek still isn’t sure about his new physical surroundings, showing the reader that he is not yet assimalted into the American culture, and still sees things in his “African eyes”.
