Analyzing Kelly Cornell's Speech 'Sugar Blues'

Overall, I believe that Kelly Cornell did an outstanding job with her speech "Sugar Blues", in terms of verbal and non-verbal techniques, in my opinion. One major key component I observed from Kelly's speech was that she maintained eye contact with the audience consistently. Keeping eye contact with your audience on a consistent basis is very important, it lets your audience know that you are more engaged with them and it makes the audience a lot more focused on you and your speech. Looking back on your notes is not a bad thing to do, but whenever it is every couple seconds and you look like you are having a spasm from looking up and down so much, you are doing it completely wrong. In a speech, transitions are another major key component that can either make or break the speech. By finding a way you can go from one major subject to another major subject without causing confusion to everyone in the audience is great, nobody likes to being drawn into what you are saying then when you transition to another topic, they feel like they missed out on a couple paragraphs and they become lost. One negative feedback I can give about Kelly Cornell's speech was that she used a lot of repetitive hand motions and gestures during the speech. Typically this isn't something that will make or break the speech, but it does draw attention away from listening and can be quite annoying to some.
