How did Rembrandt use light to express human emotions in his paintings? Rembrandt used light to express human emotions by creating spots of brightness and pockets of deep darkness. His use of light to express human emotion really interested me because back then the style of illumination grew weaker. Rembrandt’s use of light became the style of that time. I love his painting, The Girl at the Window, because it puts yourself in the painting. The girl is really not at a window, she is leaning on a ledge. She has rosy cheeks, lights are all over her body and lights are behind her.

It is considered one of the greatest paintings ever in the Netherlands. It is a painting about the history of the Netherlands by making it about the high civic guardsmen of Amsterdam. “The Night Watch” is a group portrait of civic guardsmen of Amsterdam. The primary purpose of these guardsmen is to defend their city from the bad guys. I really love this painting because it reminds me of a portrait painting that my brother did.
