Analyzing The Essay 'Arm Wrestling With My Father'

The essay I read “Arm Wrestling with my Father” is about a father and son and how they grow to show each other affection. In this story Manning and his father have an unusual and unsteady relationship. He explains how they weren’t very affectionate towards each other, but will eventually grow a different more special type of bound.
At the beginning of the story Manning and his father weren’t very passionate, but instead conveyed their feelings physically, like arm wrestling or play fighting. To me Manning did what I would have done. It’s the most respectful thing to do. My father is as well a strong guy, but over the years I see him become weaker and just getting older. The difference is my father is still stronger than me but it won’t be for long until I will overpower him. Like many even if I become stronger than my dad I will still have the up most respect for him and everything he has done for my family.
In the end Manning is leaving for the airport for school. He was sad to leave his mother and father. Manning hugged his mother and was prepared to hand-shake his dad, but his father offered at hug. Manning bracing himself for a big hard hug. Except when his father hugged him it was different. It was softer and longer than before. He sensed a different message and bond that he never felt from his father before and it was heart-warming.
To conclude Manning and his Father had a physical relationship at first. They both love each other. He learned to become more affectionate and created a stronger bond with his son. People may think that just because family members do not hug or kiss all the time that their relationship is not strong. Manning’s father wasn’t big on words, but no doubt that they
