“Schizophrenia is a brain disorder that affects the way a person acts, thinks and sees the world”(“Schizophrenia”1) Although this disorder doesn't sound too bad it can make people crazy and change the way people think about people. People with schizophrenia may see or hear things that don’t exist. Similarly in the story “The Hitchhiker” by Anthony Horowitz there is a boy, named Jacob who sadly, has schizophrenia which causes him to do and think things that he should not have which is why he is in a prison for the criminally insane. Jacob has schizophrenia because he has hallucinations and he is delusionist.
To begin, having hallucinations will make people see or hear things in their mind that are not there. Although, Hallucinations can make people see something they want to they can also be very dangerous when a person acts on what they see or hear. Also, “ Research shows that auditory hallucinations occur when people misinterpret their own inner- self talk as coming from an outside source”(“Schizophrenia”2). This means that people having hallucinations can make up what another person is saying with their own inner thoughts. However, the death of the hitchhiker could have been avoided if his parents did not stop. It is definitely possible that the symptoms that jacob had in the story by Anthony Horowitz could happen to another person is the same position. In the “Schizophrenia” article it tells us the symptoms of delusions and hallucinations which Jacob had.
