And Then There Were None 1939. An imprint of Harper mass market printing, April 2011. In the book has various mysterious and diabolical characters. How did a group of then 10 people get stuck on an island and all die? Which character stood out the most? A character who stood out to me would be Vera Claythorne, why? Because why not? Agatha used indirect characterization to show Vera’s reactions and actions. Vera was brought along Soldier Island with the rest of the crew because of the plot of Justice Lawrence, Vera was going to work as a secretary for Mr. Owen but things turned out more unexpected.

Eventually, Vera has a breakdown, she betrays their pact this informs us that she’s unfaithful just as Hugo was to her. Grabbing the revolver and killing Philip Lombard, such as Philip did to the natives on the island he ventured. Her limit was reached when she ended his life, having hallucination of the small child who had drowned in her care. Bringing her to terminate her life out of remorse and suffrage, she hangs herself.
In conclusion, Vera is a gold digger, manipulative, and unfaithful person. Author Agatha Christie she used various techniques to characterize her character Vera Claythorn such as by thoughts, within dialog, and actions. This makes Vera an interesting character to experiment with, she resembles a little guinea pig because of her traits and her actions within the book. This also makes the other characters unique and stand out. This brings the end to my conclusion of this marvelous and engrossing book named And Then There Were None 1939.
