Andrew Jackson a strong believer in the common man and a frontiersman who fought in the battle of New Orleans. His presidency was marked my controversy, such as the Indian Removal Act. It was also remembered by he push for smaller government, as shown by his being against the American system and the national bank. Thirdly, his presidency was about spreading democracy, by trying to get all the Americans to vote and and looking good to the farmers and America's working class.

The Indian Removal Act moved the Indians west to new land so that the settlers could have their land. The missionaries did not feel this was fair to the Indians. President Jackson felt he was opening up new land for farmers to settle and make new lives. This caused a controversy
