In 1789, the United States elected its very first president. These presidents have been analyzed and debated by historians for centuries. Andrew Jackson is certainly no exception. There are three main arguments historians make as to why Andrew “Old Hickory” Jackson was the worst president in American History. The arguments include his Native American policies, economic policies, and his political legacy.

The first and most unanimously agreed upon were his policies and treatment of Native Americans. In 1827, the Cherokees had created a new constitution which declared themselves sovereign and independent of United States.
